There is a wide variety of cycling routes starting from the house which take in some of the fantastic local scenery. The Tour de France regularly passes through the region, so there is the ability to ride the same stretches that the pros hurtle down.

As keen cyclists our son and daughter-in-law use the house as a training base throughout the year. The most challenging routes are over 160km with upwards of 3000m of climbing. There are easier options as well which follow the valley floors, however all routes involve a short climb back up to the house! More recently the UCI Gran Fondo world championships came to Albi, so there is a ready made 170km route exploring some of the area’s most beautiful scenery right on the doorstep:

For those who are interested we can provide more detail on the routes mapped in the attached link.

The Pyrenees are also just over 2 hours away by car, so we have done a trip to take on the mighty climbs like the Tourmalet. From an early morning start you can get to the base of the Tourmalet and complete 3 Cols before a late lunch and back home in time for dinner. This might be an evening when you would like EatRetreat to have a delicious meal ready and waiting for you when you get back to Lesquilourie.
