The Accommodation

The Main House

The main house, or Domaine, comprises the south, west and east wings of the bastide surrounding the courtyard. The north side of the courtyard is a double height stone barn.

The large double aspect master suite in the west wing has views of rolling hills to the west and windows opening onto the court yard. Its impressive en-suite bathroom has a free-standing roll top bath, centrally positioned to take advantage of the west views, and a large glazed walk in shower. There are 4 further double bedrooms (of which 2 have twin beds), one with its ensuite shower room, and 2 further bathrooms.

The use of rooms is flexible as we have additional single beds for use by clients if that is preferred.

The first floor south facing salon (18m x 4.2m) has French windows leading to a balcony with far reaching views. At one end two comfy sofas are positioned around a large fireplace with a wood-burning stove; the library and writing desk (boasting the best view for any wannabe novelist) are at the other end of the salon. A spiral staircase takes you to a minstrel’s gallery (absent minstrels there is a table football machine on the gallery) which leads to the attic fifth (twin) bedroom. A stone staircase from the first floor salon takes you down to the ground floor salon, with TV area, large dining table (seats 10 comfortably) and breakfast dining table. The kitchen opens off the breakfast dining area and is very well equipped with a Lacanche range cooker (double oven: one gas; one electric),fridge/freezer, dishwasher and microwave ,plus extensive storage including a large larder cupboard. There is also a laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer and sink, and a separate downstairs WC on the ground floor.

The large inner courtyard is ideal for secluded outdoor dining. It has been the venue for many a long summer evening with friends and family, replete with good food and wine, talking, laughing and setting the world to rights before turning in for a good night’s rest.

The Grounds and Swimming Pool

The 17 hectare grounds include extensive garden and grassed areas, a small orchard, plenty of shady areas for picnics or contemplation and a large area of secluded woodland for more strenuous walks or adventures.

There is a terrace at the front of the house, and a covered outdoor seating area for alfresco dining near the pool.

The 12 x 8m swimming pool is in the front garden down some planted steps, surrounded by a stone terrace and mature plants and trees. The deep end is deep enough to dive into. There is nothing more delicious on a hot summer’s day than gliding into its cool silky water.

The Cottage

The cottage is situated adjacent to the main house. It has a further double bedroom and a bathroom with bath and shower, together with a spacious open plan kitchen, dining and sitting room. The cottage has its own terrace and garden and separate driveway.

Canine Guests

Well behaved dogs are welcome. There is a dog basket and bowls. Dogs are not allowed on the beds or furniture!

All bed linen is provided and will be changed weekly. In case of accidents (no worries- these things happen!) there is spare linen. Please let Kate know if you need more bed linen so she can arrange for the laundry and ensure the linen supply is kept in order.

Towels for use in the bathroom and by the pool are supplied. Please don’t mix them up! Pool towels can also be taken to the Roucarié lake for those who fancy some open water swimming- don’t forget to bring them back.

There are separate towels for dogs and bikes- definitely do not mix these up with either the bath or pool towels!

For the budding Masterchefs the well-designed kitchen with a Lacanche range cooker provides all you need to test your skills. Check out our ‘Food & Markets’ activities page for the local markets and supermarkets for provisions.

The property is provisionally let on a self-catering basis however if you would like catering, whether for the occasional evening meal or on a regular basis this can be organised. Please see our ‘Catering‘ page for more information.

Meet and Greet

We provide a welcome pack with provisions and a bottle of wine for your first evening, so you don’t have to worry about dashing to the local shop before you settle in. Or you could choose to book a Welcome Meal with EatRetreat, so there will be a meal waiting for you (see Additional Services).

There will be someone to meet and greet you and show you around. Kate will be your primary contact throughout your stay.

Other things to note

There is a small road that runs between the main house and the gardens to the front where the  pool is. While the house is in a very quiet rural location and there is only little traffic, the neighbours including the farmers, the postie and school bus use the road.  So, pets and children will need to be supervised when crossing over to the pool area (and please supervise children in and around the pool at all times).
